Horse - drawn carriage tours

On the history of horse-drawn carriages

Those who want to experience Salzburg at a horse’s pace like the Prince-Archbishops once did should get behind one at the carriages’ square, which awaits passengers at Residenzplatz at the cathedral arcades. In the past, the Fiaker carriages were official and personal means of transport for the Prince-Archbishops.

The carriages got the name “Fiaker” from the pious settler Fiacrius, who settled in France in the 7th century. The wage-drawn carriages named after him were invented there in the 18th century.

Ride past the sights of Salzburg
