The classics

Altars in the museum

DomQuartier

With the DomQuartier, a museum masterpiece has been achieved in the heart of the city: the unique museum highlight combines the staterooms and Residenz Gallery of the Alte Residenz, the Cathedral Museum and St. Peter’s Museum in one round tour.

The different premises display magnificent exhibitions about the baroque city’s history and the time of the Prince-Archbishops. Additionally, visitors get unique views of the historic centre, from the museum premises as well as the cathedral arcades.

Mozart museums

In Mozart’s birthplace on Getreidegasse and his residence at Makartplatz, you can admire original exhibits from the life and everyday living of the Mozart family, such as the original instruments of the child prodigy.

Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art hosts exhibitions of classic modernism at two locations – the Rupertinum in the historic centre and the modern, striking building at Mönchsberg – all year round. International art treasures from the 20th and 21st centuries are presented in alternating exhibits.

Haus der Natur

In the Haus der Natur, the exciting and wonderful world of nature and technology opens up in a 7,000m² venue – children and families alike are delighted to discover the numerous exhibits. Giant dinosaurs, a large aquarium, physics and technology you can touch in the Science Centre, the human body and much more invite you along on diverse and exciting journeys of discovery.

Salzburg Museum and Panorama Museum

In the magnificently restored rooms of the Neue Residenz, you can marvel at the history of the city and region of Salzburg through the ages. Objects of art and cultural history since modern times, on literature, music, architecture, photography, handicraft and science bear witness to Salzburg’s rich past. Another floor is dedicated to findings from prehistoric times and the Middle Ages.

Underground, a passage leads to the Panorama Museum, where you can admire the huge Sattler panorama. The ‘walk-in’ painting shows an accurate and detailed portrayal of the city and region of Salzburg in 1825.
